SIRI AAPL LMCA

StockSaints — Often times we see discussion surrounding Sirius XM (SIRI) taking focus on things like potential competition in the marketplace from the likes of Pandora (P) or Apple (AAPL).

While these are valid concerns as articulated by Richard Saintvilus in his post : Is Sirius Back to Frustrating Investors?, I wonder if such concerns don’t focus on things that, at the moment, don’t matter too much with the giant elephant that currently sits in the room.  That elephant?

Liberty Media (LMCA).

Apple’s Up 10% Since Reaching Bottom, Still Need iPrefs?

AAPL

StockSaints – Steve Jobs once said, “A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.” Apple (AAPL) has always innovated on this premise. It has brought the tech giant much success. But lately, success has been hard to come by; the stock has plummeted 40% from an intraday high of $705 last September.

The sentiment bubble
Apple has a problem that every company wants — a cash hoard of $137 billion, but no epic idea of what do with it. I’ve done my part as a shareholder; the company now has all of my routing numbers. I’m still waiting to hear back. But in the meantime, here comes David Einhorn, the outspoken hedge-fund manager at Greenlight Capital. He’s got a few ideas of his own. One in particular is called “iPrefs,” which has brought him much scrutiny.

Is Pfizer Still a Big Pharma Kingpin?

JNJ PFE

StockSaints – Despite my recent obsession with Johnson & Johnson‘s (JNJ) restoration to health, I’ve long been a closet admirer of rival Pfizer (PFE). Seeing as the company posted solid gains last year — beating the S&P 500, I regret that I never came out. Then again, that’s not to suggest that it’s too late.

While the company does deserve credit for some cost-cutting initiatives since the arrival of CEO, Ian Read in 2010, many of which have streamlined the business, I do wonder if there are enough near-term catalysts to push these shares higher beyond their current 52-week highs. And if fourth-quarter earnings were any indication, management seems determined to put its best foot forward.

GS JPM BAC

StockSaints – Shares of banking giant Citigroup (C) are down $0.61, or 1.36% to $44.62 despite the company having received some praise earlier today from Goldman Sachs (GS), which said that Citigroup and JPMorgan (JPM) are better buys than Bank of America (BAC). Goldman Sachs, which has a “Conviction Buy” rating on Citigroup, also increased its price target by $1 to $56 per share.

GRPN GOOG

StockSaints – Well, it’s now official, Groupon‘s (GRPN) CEO, Andrew Mason finally got canned. Raise your hand if you did not see this one coming. It’s hard to discuss his accomplishments, which are very few by the way, without acknowledging that three years ago, Mason turned down a $6 billion buyout offer from Google (GOOG), which is more than twice Groupon’s current market cap. The company (then) felt it could do better. So, this gives you an idea of where this is going.
